Hi, I'm Catherine Kay! I'm very excited you're here on my About Page! I’m a wife and frugal stay-at-home mom of nine children since 1992. It’s definitely been a wild ride: I’ve learned a lot, but I know I have much more to learn on the journey.
I’ve made lots of mistakes, but staying at home was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can assure you that staying at home with your children is doable and the ultimate gift you can give your children.
My desire to start a blog is to document the last leg of my at-home adventure and to share the lessons I’ve learned so far. I look forward to sharing the conclusion of this journey and further growth with you.
On my blog, I’ll share my experiences, challenges, and advice on living frugally as a stay-at-home mom to help you in your journey.
I worked up to the week before I had my first child. As soon as my child was born, I knew I wanted to stay at home with him. That was 31 years ago.
It wasn’t easy at all because the job my husband had didn’t bring in reliable and consistent pay. Necessity taught me to be resourceful with my finances, allowing me to find creative solutions to make our budget stretch, thus enabling us to survive on one salary.
Gardening and growing things has always had a special place in my heart. After spending many years both in New York and Montana, I’ve honed my green thumb by growing a bountiful home garden.
I’ve also picked up the skills of canning and dehydrating my garden’s harvest that I would like to share with you.
During a span of 20 years, I welcomed 8 more children into the world, but also mourned the loss of one due to a miscarriage.
Also at that time, I co-founded and organized a homeschool group and then a large activist group. Through this work I gained some skills in things that terrified me when I was in school: writing and speaking.
I have reached a stage in my journey where I desire to expand on my abilities and try my hand at blogging.
As of today, I’m continue to be a stay-at-home mom in Montana with my husband and five of my children.
I co-founded a local gardening group, where we support and educate one another on home gardening. I’m also having fun learning how to quilt and I’ve already made four quilts.
Growing a home garden can greatly reduce your expenses. I will be sharing my insights on gardening and techniques for utilizing the produce from your garden.
As a stay-at-home mom, it's crucial to maintain optimal health. Over the years, I have faced difficulties with gut problems, fatigue, anxiety, and memory concerns. In my posts, I will provide advice and recommendations for pursuing a healthier and more natural lifestyle.
Living in tight spaces and moving a lot can be stressful. I’ve figured out ways to keep my home organized and take care of my family, even though I’ve made many mistakes along the way.
Despite everything, I did my best and trusted God for the rest. I should mention that I have faith, but not a religion.
